Jumeirah to open Glasgow hotel
Glasgow is to get its first "six-star" hotel when the Dubai-based Jumeirah Group opens its £125m property in 2011.
The 25-storey Jumeirah Glasgow, designed by Ian Simpson Architects, is set to become one of the UK' most luxurious hotels.
The 160-room hotel will be located in the city's International Financial Services District, with close proximity to the high-end shopping district.
Facilities will include a rooftop infinity pool, Jumeirah’s signature Talise Wellness spa, a fitness club, rooftop cocktail lounge and several restaurants and bars.
The property's extensive business and conference amenities will be supplemented by a 630-seat ballroom and a dedicated club lounge.
As well as the rooms, the hotel will operate 85 Jumeirah Living serviced apartments to cater for guests planning an extended visit.
Steven Purcell, leader of Glasgow City Council and chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, welcomed the new arrival.
“Today’s announcement is a resounding vote of confidence in Glasgow and its future ambitions, made all the sweeter by the fact that Jumeirah does not operate anywhere else in the United Kingdom outside London,” he said.
Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts is the management arm of of Dubai Holdings and its portfolio includes the Burj Al Arab in Dubai and the Jumeirah Lowndes hotel in London.
Jumeirah currently has several luxury five-star properties under development in the Middle East and Asia. In early 2009, the group will open the Jumeirah HanTang Xintiandi in Shanghai, Jumeirah’s first hotel in the Asia Pacific region.
