Jacobite Discovery project gets green light
A landmark project aiming to improve the tourism offer around Loch Ness has been approved by The Highland Council.
Highland Councillors voted to approve Jacobite Discovery's application to build a new £2.5m visitor centre and harbour off the A82 at Brackla - a prime position overlooking Scotland's most renowned stretch of water.
The Jacobite Discovery Project has been designed by Glasgow-based Cameron Webster Architects (CWA) and includes a visitor centre, ticket office and tourist facility and is an "extension" of the Inverness-based Jacobite Cruises.
It will also act as new headquarters for the company's cruise business, which welcomes around 150,000 customers a year. The business currently operates out of offices and harbours at the Tomnahurich Bridge and Clansman Hotel.
Rod Michie, Director at Jacobite, said: "We've involved the public at all stages of the design process and worked hard to ensure this facility enhances the visitor experience. There is no doubt this region can make much more of Loch Ness, a world famous destination, by offering higher quality facilities and improved service."
