Island-based Sheraton Cozumel Resort to open in Mexican Yucatan Pensinsula
Starwood will launch the Sheraton Cozumel Resort in Mexico in early 2018 on an island in the Yucatan Peninsula, with sweeping views of the Caribbean.
The beachfront resort will have 120-bedrooms, plus access to the beach and the island’s coral reefs. The property will also offer two pools, a poolside bar, three restaurants, a signature Sheraton fitness centre, a Shine Spa and 8,500sq ft (790sq m) of meeting space. Further information on the spa is expected to be announced as the development progresses.
The Sheraton Cozumel Resort, owned by Inmobiliaria Punta Tormentos, is the fifth Starwood hotel signing in Mexico within the first quarter of 2015 and will increase the Sheraton brand’s portfolio to six hotels in Mexico.
Currently, Starwood has a total portfolio of 29 hotels in Mexico across eight of its brands. There is a pipeline of nine new openings planned in the country by 2018. These include Sheraton Chihuahua Hotel, set to open this year; followed by Westin Cozumel in 2016. Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort will open in Los Cabos in 2017 – marking the Luxury Collection brand’s entry to Mexico.
