Internet broadcast for England match
Football supporters will only be able to watch England's final qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup against Ukraine online after no television company acquired the broadcast rights.
Kentaro, the international football agency, acquired broadcast rights for the match from the Ukrainian Football Association after the Irish sports broadcaster, Setanta, was forced to relinquish the rights when it entered administration. Fans will have to subscribe to the match, which will be played at Dnipro Arena on 10 October.
Kentaro, which has appointed digital sports company Perform to market the event, said that it had received no offers from any UK broadcaster to screen the fixture. The company has also secured a deal with Arts Alliance Media to broadcast the match at a number of cinemas across the UK. Odeon, one of the largest UK cinema chains, has confirmed that 13 of its properties will be screening the match, including Bath; Derby; Leicester Square, London; Manchester and Southampton.
Rupert Gavin, chief executive officer of Odeon Cinemas Group, said: "People often assume cinemas are just for watching the latest blockbusters, but with digital technology we can screen much more, from sporting events right through to live music concerts and even the opera."
