IOSH advocates new training
In response to the recent Promoting a European Framework for Corporate Social Responsibility Green Paper, the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) is calling on the government to fund specialist training for 10,000 health and safety practitioners for workplaces across the UK.
The IOSH believes that by strengthening the role of practitioners to help manage rehabilitation, reasonable adjustments and return to work programmes, Britain will achieve a more inclusive and diverse workforce with healthier and more supportive working practices.
For example, if a gym instructor were to sustain a physical injury while working, they may be signed off sick as the current law stands.
However, the new practices would encourage the employer to find alternative tasks until the instructor recovered and then to gradually ease the employee back into their previous workload within a supportive environment. Details: www.workwise.uk
