IAAPA 2014: TEA honours Disney Electrical Parade creator with Thea award
Ron Miziker, creator of Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade, was recognised for a lifetime of distinguished achievements as the Thea Awards were announced at the IAAPA convention in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday. Miziker, winner of the Themed Entertainment Association’s (TEA) Buzz Price Thea Award, will be honoured along with the other winners at a ceremony on 21 March 2015.
“I’m very proud,” Miziker, of show production company Miziker Entertainment, told Attractions Management. “We were one of the earliest companies involved with the TEA and I’ve served on the international board and the awards committee.” Miziker also produced many Thea Awards shows, including the 20th anniversary last year.
“We’ve done primetime TV, park shows, casinos, light shows,” Miziker said. “I was head of all show development for Disney for 10 years and I created the Main Street Electrical Parade, so I’m fortunate to have had so much variety. Disney estimates over 1 billion people have seen that parade at their various parks over the last 30 years, so that’s one of many highlights. It’s great that it turned out well and the audience loves it so much – everything we do is judged by the audience.”
Other Thea winners included Chimelong Ocean Kingdom Zhuhai, China, the National September 11 Memorial Museum, New York, Bistro Chez Rémy at Disneyland Paris and Wings of Time at Sentosa, Singapore. Universal Studios Florida won three awards for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.
