IAAF confirms London 2015 bid
London has been revealed as one of three cities bidding to host the 2015 Athletics World Championships, according to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
The announcement was made at the world governing body's council meeting at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Doha, Qatar, on 15 March, following the conclusion of the World Indoor Championships. According to the IAAF, it has received letters of intent from London; Beijing, China; and Chorzow, Poland, by a deadline of 10 March for interested parties to submit bids.
A final decision is due to be made at a council meeting in November, while New York, US, and Karnava, Bulgaria, will find out which has secured the 2012 World Half Marathon Championship. Nassau, Bahamas; Greensboro, US; and a city in Slovenia still to be confirmed have put themselves forward for the 2013 World Youth Championships, while an unconfirmed city in Bahrain is in line to host the 2013 World Cross Country Championships.
If London is successful in securing the 2015 World Athletics Championship, it could help to guide legacy plans for the future use of the city's Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games.
