Hull Council and SHOKK team up
SHOKK and Hull City Council have joined forces in the fight against childhood obesity with the installation of the full SHOKK concept at Woodford Leisure Centre.
SHOKK provides a funky, youth-focused, motivational environment that gives users an enjoyable fitness experience and, most importantly, encourages them to get and stay active.
Much more than just a gym, the facility offers a complete activity solution for young people. The full range of specialised SHOKK equipment is provided, which has been designed to accommodate the growing bodies of young people while providing an effective workout that is completely safe and entertaining.
Councillor Kalvin Neal, portfolio holder for quality of life, said: "We are delighted to officially open this new facility for the people of Hull, which demonstrates our dedication to transforming life chances for young people as well as tackling some of the issues around health and obesity."
Woodford Leisure Centre has been a feature in the community since 1985 and a recent £1m redevelopment has helped dramatically improve youth amenities, after the devastation caused by the floods in 2007.
The official opening coincided with the launch of Hull's citywide sports strategy, which aims to motivate and inspire people in a bid to change their lives and improve their health and wellbeing.
The introduction of the new facility is just one way Hull City Council is trying to improve opportunities for young people to get active and tackle childhood obesity.
