Hoxton Apprentice goes from strength to strength
Hoxton Apprentice, the social enterprise set up by the charity Training for Life, continues to establish itself as a restaurant serving ‘simple, sensible food at fair prices’ (Hardens Guide 2005).
Last year, the 2005 Tatlers Restaurant Guide named it as one of the top 320 restaurants in the UK.
Opened in 2004, Hoxton Apprentice takes groups of long-term unemployed and homeless local people and provides them with the personal and vocational skills, training and qualifications, for them to get, and keep, a job in the hospitality industry.
Training and real work experience takes place in the commercial environment of the restaurant, an environment which has meant that more than 80 per cent of trainees go on to permanent jobs.
Under the direction of BHA Fellow Prue Leith, the restaurant serves an a la carte menu of modern European dishes, with great service in a relaxed contemporary setting.
The restaurant also offers a two-course lunchtime special menu, Saturday and Sunday Brunch menu with roasts on Sundays. All profits are returned to the charity.
