How to have a laugh in England
Enjoy England, VisitBritain’s England marketing team, has launched a new campaign to promote the country’s best comedy-related locations and attractions.
The Comedy England scheme is targeted towards the domestic market and features a website – www.enjoyengland.com/comedy – with a -map of more than 150 comedic locations and destinations all over the country,
Locations on the map include Torquay (Fawlty Towers); Holmfirth, Yorkshire (Last of the Summer Wine); Billericay, Essex (Gavin and Stacey) and Norwich (I’m Alan Partridge).
The campaign also reveals links to regional comedy heroes, with examples including Lenny Henry and Birmingham, Ross Noble and the North East and Peter Kay in the North West.
Laurence Bresh, Enjoy England’s general manager for England marketing at VisitBritain, said: “England is renowned for producing some of the best comedy in the world and our sense of humour is a trait that the English are famous for.
“Comedy is an integral part of our heritage and culture and the Comedy England campaign will encourage visitors to explore some of the regions, locations and attractions, which have contributed to this and further increase the 100 million trips that Brits take in their own country every year.”
