Horley Leisure Centre contractor appointed
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council (RBBC) has appointed Holland-based Pellikaan Construction to build a new £7.5m leisure centre on the site of a former school in Horley, Surrey.
Work is due to start on the demolition of existing buildings at Court Lodge Secondary School in late September in order to enable construction work on the S&P Architects-designed facility to get underway in November. A six-lane, 25m swimming pool with ramped access for disabled users; a teaching pool; a 50-station fitness gym with free weights; an exercise and dance studio; and a four-court sports hall are included in the plans.
Separate changing areas for males, females, families and disabled users; a reception with viewing gallery; and parking facilities to be shared with Horley Town Football Club also form part of the development. The town's existing Horley Anderson centre will remain open until the new Horley Leisure Centre is completed in January 2012, before making way for new public open space as part of Horley's Riverside Green Chain.
RBBC executive member for leisure and wellbeing Adam De Save said: "This new leisure centre will provide significantly improved leisure facilities for residents of Horley and the surrounding areas. "The final design incorporates feedback from residents, sports clubs, schools and community groups and so we are confident that the centre will meet the community's needs."
