Hoey opens Newcastle Sports Centre

Sport Minister, Kate Hoey, has opened the West Gate Community College Centre for Sport in Newcastle. The £6.2m centre provides both schoolchildren and members of the local community with a wide-range of sporting facilities including a multi-purpose sports hall, health and fitness centre, mirrored dance studio, seven five-a-side floodlit pitches, an all-weather floodlit hockey pitch, and a tennis and netball centre. Funding for the centre built by Shepherd Construction, came from a Sport England Lottery Grant, Newcastle Local Education Authority and the local regeneration project, Reviving the Heart of the West End.
