Hersheypark to open Boardwalk attraction
Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania, US, will unveil a new attraction called The Boardwalk next month.
The US$20m (£10.3m, 15m euro) Boardwalk will be located inside the theme park, near the Midway America attraction.
The centrepiece – East Coast Waterworks – will comprise 225 ft (68.5m) of bridges, seven slides and two crawl tunnels, complete with giant buckets, cones, jets, falls, and geysers.
A separate slide complex called Coastline Plunge will include a Chutes and Ladders water play structure – based on the children’s board game Snakes and Ladders – which will feature 51-ft (15.5-m) high slides.
In addition, Bayside Pier will provide a 5,175sq ft (110sq m) pool with lakeside waves and sun loungers, while Waverider will allow two visitors to simultaneously body surf in a 34-ft wide controlled environment.
Younger guests will be able to visit Castle Cove – an oversized sandcastle with two water slides, four water cannon, water curtains and jets.
The entire multilevel water activity area – designed by White Water West of British Columbia, Canada – will also include almost 600 interactive water toys.
Additional facilities will be 11 food venues, six game and seven retail outlets, as well as two changing areas.
The new water attraction at the 110-acre park will open to the public on 24 April, as part of its centenary celebrations. Details: www.hersheypa.com
