Helix South network unveiled in Falkirk
Efforts to transform an area of land north of Falkirk Stadium into a major new parkland and attraction have taken a step forward with the launch of the Helix South path network.
Members of the public now have the opportunity to benefit from around 12km (7.5 miles) of new and upgraded pathways as part of the wider Helix Project. It is hoped the network will help boost health and wellbeing, while providing enhanced links between Grangemouth, Beancross, Polmot, Laurieston and Westquarter.
Additional Helix South pathways are due for completion by summer 2012 to connect with the Falkirk Stadium - one of the main gateways to the planned central parrk and canal hub. The first major phase of the Helix Project is due to open in 2013 and will feature the central park with an enclosed lagoon and outdoor events space.
A new canal link featuring the Kelpies - two structures in the shape of horses' heads - will also form part of the scheme.
