Coastal health club St Michaels opens after £2m investment
St Michaels Health Club has opened after a £2m (US$2.6m, €2.3m) revamp of the former Falmouth Beach Hotel site, bringing urban fitness to the coast of Cornwall.
The 120sq m (1,290sq ft) club, which includes brands such as Technogym, Matrix, Escape, Concept 2 and Kaiser, has an indoor track and outdoor Fitness Terrace, with personal trainers available for workouts, health advice and rehabilitation.
Workouts are taken beyond the gym into St Michaels Gardens, on to the tennis courts and Gyllyngvase Beach.
Three dedicated studios offer more than 75 sessions each week as well as virtual classes. There is an 18-bike Spin studio, a Gig Rowing studio, with classes including sunrise yoga, pilates, body pump, high octane boxing and Les Mills branded workouts.
The club also has a 17-metre indoor pool.
Prices at St Michaels, which is targeted at all ages, start at £2 (US$2.6, €2.3) per class and £33 (US$43, €37.3) per month.
Owner Nigel Carpenter said: “The ability to have wellbeing on your terms, in a state of the art facility that brings both variety and flexibility is key to today’s audience. People want a club that matches their lifestyle and agenda and to not be pigeon holed into a limited number of disciplines.
“We have invested massively in the transformational redevelopment of the St Michaels Health Club to make something really stand-out for Falmouth locals and visitors to Cornwall. The club is purposefully like no other in the region, the vision was to extend our hand of hospitality and create a huge modern health space with the best of the best when it comes to the people, the equipment and the space we use. We are excited to welcome new and old members when we open the doors to make sure everyone can feel good again.”
The health club is part of a £6m (US$7.8m, €6.8m) transformation of the former Falmouth Beach Hotel, which burnt down in 2012. Over the summer St Michaels Hotel and Spa will open with 32 new bedrooms and suites, a refurbished restaurant and bar, a new destination spa and spa café.
