Haringey Council to invest in fitness facilities
Haringey Council is to invest £4.6m in developing new health and fitness facilities across the London borough.
Work starts next month (September) on an adults-only gym on the first floor of Tottenham Green Leisure Centre. The facility will house 50 to 60 stations plus a sauna and steamroom, together with a new exercise studio.
A junior gym will be created in the existing foyer area of the centre.
Another health and fitness facility will be built at Park Road Pools in Crouch End with a 70 to 80 station gym and exercise studio. Refurbishments will be made to the reception and changing areas.
New floodlights will also be installed at New River Sports Centre.
This first stage of development is due for completion in January, when the facilities will be officially relaunched.
The second stage will consist largely of the refurbishment of ancillary facilities and the upgrading of electrical and mechanical services across the three sites over the next three years.
The Sports and Leisure Centres investment package was agreed by the Council's Executive in March under the new prudential borrowing powers, which allow councils to borrow without the consent of central government, where properly managed and funded schemes are in place.
Revenue from the new gym developments at Park Road and Tottenham Green will meet the cost of investment, covering both the new facilities and wider refurbishment plans.
