Hammerson secures approval for Leeds plans
Hammerson has been given the green light by councillors to proceed with its proposals for the mixed-use regeneration of Eastgate Quarters in Leeds.
The 92,900sq m (1 million sq ft) development is set to provide 4,000 retail and leisure jobs to the north east of the city centre, with most of the site laying vacant for a number of years. ACME are behind the design of the scheme, which will also feature a new civic square, the restoration of historic buildings and restaurant units, alongside the retail aspect.
Meanwhile, a low-carbon energy centre will be developed in order to provide heating and electricity required by the scheme, while also supporting adjacent homes and businesses. Eastgate Quarters project director Andrew Hilston said: "The scheme will create thousands of jobs, boosting the local economy, and will strengthen Leeds' status as a leading European city destination."
