Hackney Council and Leisure Connection part company
Hackney Borough Council in London has ended its partnership with Leisure Connection, just three years into a 15-year contract.
Leisure Connection managed four leisure centres on behalf of the council – Kings Hall Leisure Centre, Britannia Health and Fitness Centre, Stoke Newington West Reservoir Centre and Clissold Leisure Centre – which is due to reopen next year following a refurbishment.
The council said that the contract was to end by ‘mutual agreement’, and that a handover is set for September. It is currently exploring options for the future management of the four centres, as well as for the Queensbridge Sports and Community Centre and the London Fields Lido, which reopens next year after 20 years.
Residents and users of the leisure services will be involved in the process of deciding the future management of Hackney’s leisure centres. Meanwhile, the council and Leisure Connection will be writing to all existing members of the centres and leisure cardholders to inform them of the changes, as well as holding briefing meetings to explain the handover to leisure centre staff.
