HLF grant for Lincolnshire flying heritage
A scheme designed to celebrate 90 years of aviation heritage in Lincolnshire across a number of the county's museums has been awarded a £436,000 grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
The Lincolnshire Integrated Aviation Heritage Partnership (LIAHP) is looking to upgrade visitor experience at heritage sites, providing links between a variety of exhibitions that will bring the county's aviation tradition to life. In addition to bases for early aircraft production, Lincolnshire was home to 49 airfields during World War II, which were later used to house V-force aircraft during the Cold War.
The LIAHP scheme will see museums share marketing and branding in order to promote a shared approach to attracting more visitors, while also being involved in the joint development of dedicated exhibits and education material. Captain GM Tipler, LIAHP chair, said: "The group of sites have many able volunteers with a story to tell. Now this grant takes the partnership sites to an altogether professional level with a visitor experience that we hope will never be forgotten."
Emma Sayer, HLF East Midlands head, added: "The history of aviation in Lincolnshire is a key part of our region's heritage. This project will help to link the many exciting stories together, by helping the museums to work together to create and even better visitor experience."
