Guide to child protection measures by sports providers published
The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has published a guidance leaflet to inform parents on what child protection measures should be provided by sports providers.
The pamphlet aims to help parents and carers ensure that sports clubs attended by their children maintain good child protection practices by providing a check list of questions to ask as well as a list of features that may suggest bad practice.
The questions include enquiring about the sport provider’s child protection policy, whether the staff have been checked for enhanced criminal records, whether the club’s coaches have undertaken recognised training by a recognised sports body and the accreditation status of the club.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), Sport England and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) contributed to the information contained in the publication.
