Guernsey to consider commercial services
Guernsey's Public Services department is set to ask the island's government to explore the idea of commercialising operations, such as the harbours and airport.
A review has looked at the department's trading entities in order to see whether the current public sector arrangement was the most efficient business model. No decision has been made to commercialise any of the Public Services' activities, but the States of Guernsey is to be asked to see whether further investigation is required.
Deputy Bernard Flouquet, the island's public services minister, said: "In a small community such as Guernsey, the states clearly has a key role in ensuring that essential services like harbours and airports, water and waste management are provided. "However that does not mean the states is necessarily the best placed to deliver these services."
