Green light for Banbury cultural proposals
Plans for the development of a new Cultural Quarter in Banbury, Oxfordshire, have moved to the next stage after Cherwell District Council (CDC) agreed to submit a planning application.
The local authority has resolved to invest £60,000 to move the plans forward, following months of discussions with Oxfordshire County Council and the Mill Management Committee over the scheme. Situated to the east of the Oxford Canal, the proposals will transform the area into a new cultural heart for Banbury and includes the development of a new library, the refurbishment of the Mill theatre and a new public open space and a restaurant.
CDC's portfolio holder for environment, recreation and health, George Reynolds, said: "Following on from the success of the new Spiceball Leisure Centre and with Banbury Museum nearby, this part of Banbury is set to become the heart of cultural and leisure activities in the region."
