Gore revamp completed
A £3m, two-year refurbishment at the Gore Hotel in London has just been completed.
The hotel -– built in 1892 and located at Queen’s Gate, Kensington – boasts 50 guest rooms which all feature antique furniture, period pictures and ornate beds, as well as modern amenities such as flat screen TVs and DVD players.
Judy Garland, the star of The Wizard of Oz, was a regular visitor of the hotel and as a result has had a suite named in her honour.
The suitably-named Judy Garland Room has a range of the actress’s films on DVD, as well as a pair of bright ruby slippers.
Other new suites include the Dame Nellie Melba Room and two rooms named after Ada and Fanny Cooke, who opened the hotel.
Con Ring and Edward Bracken – who bought the hotel in September 2006 from Peter McKay, the owner of The Rookery Hotel in Clerkenwell – own The Gore and plan to buy more London hotels in the future.
