Golf course resort to open in East Lothian
George Tuer has unveiled plans to transform the family-owned Whitekirk Golf & Country Club in East Lothian, Scotland, into a golf and leisure resort.
A planning application for the proposed £15m development was submitted to East Lothian Council on 15 June.
If successful, the scheme would comprise a 100-bedroom, four-star hotel with conferencing facilities and a second 18-hole golf course.
The new course would be based on 6,450-yard parkland layout featuring water features and wildlife sanctuary areas.
The scheme would also see the construction of up to 50 houses and 21 holiday lodges discreetly positioned around the estate.
The Tuer family plans to open the new facilities in spring 2009.
The existing golf club, which opened in 1995, includes a leisure club featuring a 25m swimming pool, a spa pool, a sauna and a gym as well as a restaurant serving Scottish cuisine.
George Tuer, founder and chair of the club, said: “These plans will considerably enhance and expand our existing facilities. It’s amazing that East Lothian – which has a strong golfing pedigree – doesn’t already have a top-class golf and leisure resort.” Details: www.whitekirk.com
