Goals reports increased half-year sales
Goals Soccer Centres has reported that overall sales for the six months to 30 June 2010 are "slightly ahead" of figures for same period last year.
Like-for-like sales remained stagnant due to adjustments for a year-on-year revenue loss of £300,000 incurred earlier this year when facilities were shut due to poor weather conditions. However, the company revealed it remains on track to meet its opening plans for 2010 and 2011, with new five-a-side venues in Liverpool and Eltham increasing its portfolio to 35 UK sites.
Four additional centres - Portsmouth, Ipswich, Sunderland and Gillette Corner, London - are currently under construction; two of which are set to open during July. The two remaining venues will open by late 2010. A Goals spokesperson said: "The 2006 World Cup had a significantly positive effect on trading during the second half of that year. We anticipate that the 2010 World Cup will also have a positive effect during the second half of the year but at this stage it is too early to quantify.
"Taking a conservative view of the potential uplift following the World Cup, the directors anticipate that the results for the year to 31 December 2010 will show continued growth and will be within the range of current market expectations, albeit towards the lower end."
