Gleeson completes £13.4m club contract
Developer, Gleeson, has completed its £13.4m extension of the Hurlingham Club in Fulham, west London.
The work, which took 21 months to complete, included the complete demolition and reconstruction of the building’s east wing, which lost its original glazed dome and barrel-vaulted atrium during The Blitz.
The club, once the headquarters of English polo, is now a private sports, leisure and social club and a popular venue for various sporting events and exhibitions.
Colin Miller, project manager at Gleeson, said: “This is undoubtedly one of the best projects I have ever worked on.
“We had to work without disruption to the club’s operations or its members and we have achieved that goal.”
London-based firm Squire and Partners designed the club’s refurbishment.
The history of the property dates back to 1760, when William Cadogan bought the land and built a cottage on the site – the core of the present Hurlingham House.
The club itself, which has HRH The Duke of Edinburgh as its patron, was founded in the late 1860s.
