Girl drowns at Doncaster Dome
A five-year-old girl has drowned at the Doncaster Dome leisure pool in South Yorkshire.
The police were called to the incident – which is currently thought to be a “tragic accident” – on Sunday (4 August) afternoon.
A spokesperson for the police said: “Although the death is being treated as suspicious as a matter of routine, it appears at this stage that this was a tragic accident.”
The girl, who has not been named, was visiting the Dome Leisure Centre with adult relatives and other children when the incident occurred.
Gavin Baldwin, chief executive of Doncaster Dome, said: “A young girl was found unconscious and trained lifeguards and staff immediately carried out first aid procedures and called for the emergency services to attend.
“All those involved worked hard to support the young girl, who was later pronounced dead. All our sympathies go out to her family and loved ones, and out thoughts are with them at this time.”
