George Clooney bets on Vegas casino complex
George Clooney has announced plans to build a casino, hotel and condominium complex on Harmon Avenue, Las Vegas.
The actor will be investing an undisclosed amount in a partnership with nightclub owner Rande Gerber and his company After Midnight, alongside two US property groups Centra Properties and Related Las Vegas, to build the proposed US$3bn (2.4bn euro, £1.6bn) Spanish-themed Las Ramblas development.
The centrepiece of the 25-acre Las Ramblas project will be a 300-room boutique hotel.
Work will begin on the site in 2006 with construction completed in phases over the following five years.
Las Ramblas is intended to be a top-end development while the casino will cover 48,000sq ft (4,460sq m).
The Harmon area is set to be transformed with a number of high-profile projects including a multi-billion dollar development by Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
Speaking to The Los Angeles Times, Clooney said that the idea had come out of conversations with Gerber when Clooney was staying at The Bellagio in Las Vegas filming Ocean’s Eleven.
Clooney said: “We will have some sort of dress code so that it will feel like you are walking into a Las Vegas of a different age. “I don’t know that I will make a dime on this. I could lose my shirt. But it will be a big adventure.” Details: www.centrapoint.com
