Genting – Star Cruises consortium wins Sentosa bid
The Singapore Government has selected the Genting International – Star Cruises consortium to develop the Sentosa integrated resort scheme – dubbed Resorts World at Sentosa – in Singapore by 2010.
Attractions at the integrated family resort will include Universal Studios Singapore and DreamWorks Digital Animation Studios; Quest Marine Life Park – the world’s largest oceanarium – and the Equarius Water Park located under the natural canopy of Sentosa’s forest.
In addition, the Maritime Xperiential Museum will present the maritime heritage of Asia. The history of the Asian maritime Silk Route is being designed to appeal to all five human senses for a completely interactive experience. The museum will also feature Asia’s first marine genomics research and learning centre.
Accommodation will comprise six hotels, providing 1,830 rooms as well as a spa operated by ESPA.
Consortium chair Lim Kok Thay said: “We are extremely delighted to have been chosen and are very excited and honoured to be entrusted with the great task of taking Singapore’s tourism sector to the next level.
“Within three years, visitors will experience the global tourism icon of Resorts World at Sentosa, which will change the face of tourism in the region. We are confident that by 2010, Resorts World at Sentosa will attract 15 million visitors.” Details: www.gentinginternational.com
