Gateshead park to be redesigned
St Edmunds Park in Gateshead is to undergo a three-year revamp.
The park will draw on the nearby Shipley Art Gallery for inspiration, and will plant arrangements based on designs on show in the gallery.
New seats and waste bins will also be installed during the work, the aim of which is to provide a “perfect oasis” for older people and their carers, as well as young people.
The project is the combined effort by Gateshead Council, The Gateshead Housing Company and Carers Cultural Adventures, a local group made up of carers and former carers.
Michael McNestry, Gateshead Council’s cabinet member for the environment, said: “We’re always looking for ways to make improvements to our open spaces and parks, which will provide residents and visitors with a better experience.”
