Game of Thrones designer puts colour to the sword for Bulmers’ Black & White Bar
An up-and-coming designer has created the perfect canvas for drinkers seeking to paint the town red: the world’s first completely black and white bar.
Everything in the new Bulmers #LiveColourful Bar in London is strictly monochrome, with the walls, all of the furniture, pictures, art, ping pong table, board games, bar food and even the staff completely stripped of all colour. The bar was created by Alexandra Toomey – who has previously worked on the James Bond film Skyfall and hit television series Game of Thrones.
The three-day pop-up site has been created to promote Bulmers cider, with the idea that its colourful flavoured cider bottles and guests’ bright attire are the only things that stand out against a sea of black and white. It took more than four months to bring the black and white bar to life, with collaborations between film set designers, makeup artists and practical effects wizards eventually achieving the desired effect.
“We want to create a twist on the unexpected to surprise and excite people,” Bulmers head of cider Emma Sherwood-Smith.
“Stepping into the bar will be like entering a modern day black and white movie, where the colour bursts from the guests and the bottles of Bulmers. It’s a world first and will give guests an amazing and surreal experience.”
