GLL to manage operation of Oasis Leisure Centre
GLL has entered into a 25 year partnership to operate the Oasis Leisure Centre, Swindon's landmark provider of leisure and sporting facilities.
Moirai Capital Investments Limited has announced the signing by GLL of a 25-year lease for the operation of the Oasis Leisure Centre. GLL will take over the operation of the Centre from 1 April.
Bobby Rach from Moirai said that they were delighted to have GLL as the new operators of the Centre: "I know of GLL's excellent reputation as operators of a significant number of leisure and other community facilities.
"We are delighted that they have agreed to take on the running of the Oasis Centre. Oasis has been an iconic feature in Swindon's leisure provision, and it is important that its future operation is safeguarded by being run by a company with such excellent credentials.
"The Oasis Centre will continue as a first-class provider of leisure and sporting facilities. Indeed, GLL's plans involve considerable enhancement of some aspects, including the gym and changing areas.
"The Oasis Centre will be an important element in Moirai's plans for a major £90 million development of Oasis and the North Star area. These plans are proceeding well: we are hoping to have the outline plans of the whole development submitted to the Council in June, with detail planning following hard on the heels of that."
Mark Sesnan, Managing Director of charitable social enterprise GLL - the largest provider of public sport and leisure facilities in the UK - has welcomed the opportunity to take on the operation of Oasis. He said: "We are delighted to enter into a partnership to run the iconic Oasis Leisure Centre. It is exciting to be part of one of Swindon's landmark leisure facilities.
"Part of GLL's Olympic and Paralympic legacy commitments is to deliver real community growth in sport and physical activity. We look forward to managing the development of Oasis to launch a host of new facilities - everything from new fitness areas and gym equipment through to significant development of the leisure village to include a 6,500 seater concert venue and the biggest indoor ski slope in the UK. All with a view to maximising opportunities for the local community to get involved, leading to a sustained increase in sports participation."
Cllr Keith Williams, Swindon Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Strategic Transport said: "GLL are a highly respected leisure management company with a proven track record. We are very fortunate to have an organisation of this calibre operating the Oasis."
