Fundraising drive for Fairytale Farm plans
A number of car boot sales are to be held as part of a bid to raise funds for the development of Fairytale Farm, a new activity farm attraction designed for children with disabilities.
The planned attraction will be created at a farm bought by Nick and Nicola Laister near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire. The scheme has been inspired by the Laisters' 12-year-old daughter, who suffers from cerebral palsy. Planning permission for the Fairytale Farm development was approved by the local authority last year, with work now underway to transform the farm site into the new attraction.
Existing paddock buildings are to be used for a number of uses, including animal petting and displays; play facilities and sensory trails and have all been designed to meet the needs of young people with disabilities. Trails based around local history, culture and legend have been designed to be educational for children with learning difficulties, while also featuring small features at wheelchair height.
Nick Laister said: "It will operate just like any other farm attraction, where visitors can just turn up and enjoy themselves. But the big difference is that we are turning accessibility on its head. "We are not receiving any grant funding for this project. We want to prove that a facility such as this can work and we hope that this will inspire others to do the same."
