In order for them to train for an upcoming physical exam, the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) has entered into an agreement with the New York Sports Clubs (NYSC) whereby crew members who passed the FDNY’s written exam can use club facilities free of charge.
The benefit, valued at about $4m, includes free, half-yearly membership for all potential fire crew members, in addition to specific training routines.
NYSC is a brand of Town Sports International, which operates about 125 health and fitness centres in the eastern U.S.
