Four Seasons’ new Tierra Mar Spa honours local tribal wellness wisdom and channels rustic coastal charm
A major new 15,000sq ft destination spa has launched in Los Cabos, Mexico, as part of Four Seasons' latest opening in Cabo’s Golden Corridor.
Called Tierra Mar Spa, the ocean-side facility at Four Seasons Resort & Residences at Cabo San Lucas is designed to offer an indoor-outdoor wellness oasis set against the backdrop of Baja’s dry desert landscapes.
Its design concept draws inspiration from the long Baja coastline while its healing philosophy is strongly influenced by the local Kumiai tribe and its rich history of tapping native plants for healing rituals.
Meaning “land by the sea”, Tierra Mar Spa is a product of a collaboration between Curry Spa Consulting and design firms Robert Glazier Architects, Hart Howerton, VITA Architecture and Meyer Davis.
“The inspiration for this spa stems from the unique natural beauty of the desert – where a rare river flows from the mountain to the sea, right through the property,” said Lynn Curry, founder of Curry Spa Consulting.
“This serene waterway became the perfect centrepiece for the spa, with all its features thoughtfully arranged on either side to embrace and enhance the flow of nature’s energy.”
Facilities
Tierra Mar Spa is home to 10 treatment rooms, including two couple’s suites and a signature spa suite. Each one offers a private garden and is named after a native Mexican plant.
Amenities include separate sex hydrotherapy circuits with salt saunas and eucalyptus steamrooms, shared relaxation gardens, a pool and a large ocean-view fitness centre and yoga studio designed in partnership with celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak.
Outdoor semi-private courtyards, shaded by palm trees, offer hot and cold soaking pools as well as private massage cabanas.
To honour its setting, Tierra Mar Spa features nature-inspired interiors intended to epitomise understated luxury and rustic coastal charm. Key design elements include locally sourced Ojinaga limestone floors, reclaimed wood and accents, vaulted ceilings, cobblestone pathways, woven textiles and a selection of artwork curated by Mexico City-based art consultancy Uribe Krayer.
Wellness programmingTierra Mar Spa offers an extensive treatment menu ranging from facials, body treatments and massages to specialised Mexican wellness rituals rooted in centuries of tribal wisdom.
All treatment journey begins with a sound healing ritual, using soothing soundscapes to harmonise the mind and body and create a deep sense of tranquillity.
One highlight is the use of a rebozo, a traditional Mexican shawl, in some massages, which is claimed to enhance relaxation and provide therapeutic benefits through gentle, rhythmic movements.
Guests can also opt for a variety of fitness classes and wellness rituals including energetic breathwork, meditation, personalised Pilates, yoga, BootCamp training, spinning and PT sessions.
The spa is partnered with global product houses Bustamante, 111Skin and Apotheca Beauty, as well as Dazzle Dry polish, Davines haircare and cosmetics products from Guadalajara-based Xixanthe, which are offered at the full-service salon and nail bar.
