Fitness beats traditional entertainment to become most popular lifestyle choice
The latest Mintel report shows gym memberships and cinema trips are increasing in popularity says Leisure Management.
Mintel's British Lifestyles Report shows health and fitness has been the fastest growing out-of-home entertainment over the past ten years, growing 57 per cent between 1992 and 2002 - and is expected to grow by 59 per cent in the next five years.
The cinema industry grew by 35 per cent in the same period and is forecast to grow by 43 per cent in current terms by 2007.
By contrast, nightclubs have not fared so well - a downturn attributable to the fact that they no longer have a monopoly on late night drinking.
Traditional entertainment such as historic buildings, museums, theatres, theme parks and zoos have all seen a decline in popularity in the last decade. See Leisure Management March 2003 - call +44 (0)1462 471932
