Fitbug issues trading update post-reorganisation
Personal fitness company, Fitbug Holdings has issued an update on the company's activities since its reorganisation at the end of last year.
The company has focussed on developing the UK and international sales of fitbug.com, its online fitness portal. As a result, January 2010 saw the US fitbug.com site launched based on the latest platform, Version 4.0. This is key to the expansion of the service and Fitbug anticipates its rollout on the UK site during the second quarter of 2010. Fitbug Body, the company's weight management service, has launched into the public sector and is reported to be doing well. Developed during 2009, it was originally aimed at Primary Care Trusts which were seeking new ways to reduce obesity and increase the activity levels of patients. Initial data received from the first few courses show that - on average - nearly two thirds of participants lost the target 5 per cent of their body weight during the 12 week course.
With recent contracts for the delivery of Fitbug Body having seen signings with Barnsley PCT and Kirklees PCT, the service is now being introduced to the private sector. This month will see pilot programmes of local consumer-based weight management groups commencing in conjunction with private health insurance company, BUPA. A number of transactions which were finalised last year are now starting to generate income. Fitbug's partnership with Nectar, which launched a white label version of fitbug.com on 1 January, is delivering good results, with encouraging responses to initial Nectar-led marketing.
Elsewhere, distribution agreements with Yorbody in The Netherlands and Holmes Place International in the Middle East are due to launch later this year.
