First resort in The Rocco Forte Collection launches
The latest hotel to form part of Sir Rocco Forte's portfolio of luxury accommodation has opened in Sicily.
The £120m (US$203.3m, 141.1m euro) Verdura Golf & Spa Resort joins famous names such as St. Petersburg's Hotel Astoria, The Balmoral in Edinburgh, Geneva's Le Richemond, Brown's Hotel in London and the recently opened Augustine in Prague as the 13th hotel in the Rocco Forte Collection (RFC). Covering an area of 175 hectares (432 acres) near Sciacca on the southern coast of the island and including 1.8km (1.1mile) of private coastline, the resort offers 203 rooms with interiors created by Rocco Forte's sister Olga Polizzi, who is currently the director of design for RFC.
Facilities at the hotel include four restaurants, five bars, a ballroom and an open-air amphitheatre. Sports facilities include a 60m pool; tennis centre with six floodlit courts; two 18-hole and one 9-hole golf courses designed by Kyle Phillips; putting and chipping greens; practice bunkers and a double ended driving range.
The 4,000sq m/43,000sq ft Verdura Spa features a 170sq m/1,830sq ft gym; 20m indoor lap pool; four thalassotherapy pools; 11 treatment rooms; yoga room; relaxation area; double height hammam; sauna and a separate beauty area. Conference facilities are also available.
