Fire-ravaged Voyages resort to reopen in July
Australian travel company, Voyages, is to reopen the five star Longitude 131degrees resort, the wilderness camp situated in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, which was ravaged by fire last year, on 1 July.
A bushfire devastated the luxury destination in October 2003, but the site is now close to reopening with enhancements including a new outdoor dining site – similar to the Sounds of Silence dining experience situated at Voyages’ Ayers Rock Resort a few kilometres from Longitude 131degrees.
The accommodation has been returned to its former splendour by Christine Le Fevre, with each tent paying homage to an Australian explorer or pioneer.
The original site was one of the first tourism developments approved under the Commonwealth Environment Protection & Biodiversity Conservation Act and was designed and built with considerable sensitivity for the natural and cultural heritage of the environment. The work undertaken since the fire has been similarly designed to minimise impact on the area.
Once reopened Longitude 131degrees will also offer a flexible new touring programme, an upgraded arrivals and reception area and twin room configurations.
Voyages also operates holiday resorts including Kings Canyon Resort, Alice Springs Resort and Cape Tribulation Resort. Details: www.voyages.com.au
