Fijian marina resort project on track for August 2015 launch
The FJD85m (US$45m, €35m, £28m) Pearl South Pacific Resort’s three-phase development in Fiji’s Pacific Harbour is on track for completion and a grand opening ceremony in August 2015.
The resort will offer an 18-berth marina, 400-seat conference centre, 250-seat fine dining restaurant, wedding chapel and numerous wellness facilities.
Developers and owners, Papua New Guinea’s Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC), took over operations in 2012, when the resort’s construction began. Pacific Building Solutions (PBS) is the main contractor in the project, with AAPi Design providing architecture consultancy services.
The resort, which will create 190 additional jobs, will feature a 132-room hotel and an eight-treatment room spa and wellness centre that is expected to be complete in the next couple of weeks. The Pure Fiji skincare brand will serve the spa exclusively.
While some of the resort's facilities are up and running already, the development's fine dining restaurant and other leisure elements are still incomplete. These will be ready for the opening ceremony in 2015.
The gym is already complete and the wedding chapel, which has views of Beqa lagoon, has already gained a lot of interest, according to the resort’s general manager, Natalie Marletta, who spoke to fijisun.com.
The FJD$8 million marina was designed by Australian based Marina International, designer of Singapore’s Kepple Bay Marina and Dubai’s 3km (1.9 miles), 800-berth Marina.
“This facility will add considerable value to the resort’s investment. It is infrastructure investments like a marina that increase property values, and as a result we have seen an increase in our property value by around 8 to 10 per cent”, Sir Manasupe of MRDC told fijisun.com in January. “Building a marina here is basically a necessity given the resort provides considerable diving, fishing and other water sports as part of its packages.”
