Fife secures £2.8m grant for new museum and art gallery
A new museum and art gallery showcasing the history of Dunfermline in Fife has been given the goahead after securing a £2.8m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
The latest funding will join the £6.8m investment from Fife Council as well as a donation from the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust.
Edinburgh-based Richard Murphy Architects will design the new building, which will be completed in 2016.
The museum will offer an insight into social and industrial history and host a temporary exhibition programme.
There will also be spaces for lectures, meetings, activities and events.
The new facility is the only major project to receive funding from the HLF in Scotland in this round.
Stuart Cross chair of the Fife Cultural Trust, which will operate and manage the facility on behalf of Fife Council, said: "Inside it will showcase never before seen objects from Dunfermline's rich history and all the stories will be told through the objects handed down to us from previous generations of Dunfermline people.
"This is great news for culture in the Kingdom and we're looking forward to delivering a wealth of new services from this spectacular new facility."
