Fife proposes to establish Sport and Leisure Trust
Fife Council is holding a committee meeting next week to discuss whether to establish a Sport and Leisure Trust to improve sport and leisure facilities in the region.
Council leader Cllr Peter Grant said: “Over the next three years we are proposing to spend £50m on new sports and leisure facilities – one of the largest capital investments in sport and leisure that Fife has ever seen.
“I know some people have reservations about setting up a Trust but there is no doubt that there are considerable short-term and long-term benefits to using this business model.
The proposed Trust would oversee the Beacon Leisure Centre, Burntisland; Bowhill Swimming Pool, Cardenden; Bruce Street Sports Centre and Carnegie Leisure Centre, Dunfermline; Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre; Cupar Sports Centre; Dalgety Bay Sports Centre; East Sands Leisure Centre, St Andrews; Fife Institute, Glenrothes; Kirkcaldy Swimming Pool; Levenmouth Swimming Pool and Sports Centre and Waterstone Crook Sports Centre, Newport-on-Tay.
Two upcoming centres – Pitreavie Athletics Training Centre and Duloch Park Centre in Dunfermline – would also come under the new Trust.
