February launch event for Holt Park project
A groundbreaking ceremony is due to take place next month in order to celebrate the start of work on the construction of a major new £27m wellbeing complex at Holt Park, Leeds.
Mentor - a partnership comprising GHM Rock Townsend and FaulknerBrowns Architects - designed the centre, which received the final green light from the government last month.
Leeds City Council (LCC) is now inviting local residents to come forward with names for the complex, which is due to open in December 2013 and will feature a 25m swimming pool.
Facilities will also include a hydrotherapy pool; a teaching pool; a multi-activity room; and a Bodyline gym, as well as hubs for both older people and those with learning difficulties.
Funded through the Private Finance Initiative, the work will be undertaken through the Local Education Partnership and its contractor, Interserve Project Services.
LCC executive member for adult health and social care Lucinda Yeadon said: "After the long delay in waiting to hear whether the centre would go ahead we are all now eager to crack on with it so we'd like to hear from as many people as possible with their name ideas."
