FaulknerBrowns celebrates hatrick
Leisure architects, FaulknerBrowns, is to design a mixed-use development in Holland, its third project in the country.
Backed by the Netherlands Olympic Committee and the Netherlands Athletics Federation, the £70m Omnisportscentrum in Apeldoorn will be a national centre of excellence for cycling, volleyball and athletics with an indoor athletics track, volleyball courts and a velodrome. Like Xscape in Milton Keynes, also designed by FaulknerBrowns, the Omnisportscentrum will also offer a range of commercial and leisure outlets such as a multiplex cinema, shops, restaurants and cafés
This represents the third project for the company in the Netherlands which recently won an award for its design of Sportiom, its first sport and leisure centre in Holland. FaulknerBrowns is also currently working on an aquatics centre in Vlissingen. Work is due to start on Omnisportscentrum in autumn 2002 with completion scheduled for summer 2004.
