Farsley Celtic removed from Blue Square North
Football Conference officials have confirmed that Farsley Celtic Football Club's (FCFC) record for the 2009-10 Blue Square North season is to be expunged after the club was removed from the competition.
The Leeds-based club has failed to fulfil its last three scheduled fixtures amid ongoing problems surrounding its ownership and finances, which culminated in a last-minute bid to save the club yesterday (11 March). Administrators from insolvency firm Mazars had rejected a takeover bid from a local consortium but had proposed transferring ownership of the club to the supporters' club to enable FCFC to continue as a non-profit organisation.
However, the proposal was branded a "PR stunt" by a spokesperson for the supporters' club, leaving the club facing the prospect of going out of business. A Football Conference spokesperson said: "Due to these circumstances, the Football Conference was left with no other option than to formally accept the club's resignation from the competition and their full playing record is expunged."
The news follows the expulsion and subsequent winding up of Chester City Football Club, which competed in the Blue Square Premier.
