Exeter theatre programme to proceed
Arts Council England (ACE), Exeter City Council and the University of Exeter have confirmed the spring programme of events will go-ahead as planned at the city's Northcott Theatre.
Performances of the in-house Whipping It Up show may not be able to take place but ACE will provide £100,000 to allow most of the scheduled events to be staged as planned. The university, which owns the theatre, and the council aim to develop a longer-term plan for Northcott Theatre after trustees were forced to place the venue into administration in February.
ACE, South West executive director Chris Humphrey said: "We considered our funding very carefully in the light of the theatre's current financial problems and have concluded that further investment now will help to secure the future of the Northcott. Jeremy Lindley, the university's director of corporate services, added: "The university is extremely keen to keep the theatre as a community resource and would wish to provide financial support to a new and viable artistic venture."
