Evian spa opens in Shanghai
The first Evian branded spa outside France has opened its doors to the public, in the Chinese city of Shanghai.
Evian Spa is built on two levels of a brand new mixed-use leisure development called Three on the Bund, which is located in a 1916 neo-classical building on the Bund – Shanghai’s historic waterfront.
The spa is the first of its kind in Shanghai, and offers guests beauty treatments which have not been available in the city before, including Digi-Esthetique – a massage methodology developed by Sothys – which increases circulation and improves the skin’s appearance.
Therapists have been undergoing an intensive training programme prior to the opening, including hands on training from Eve Taylor, founder of the Institute of Clinical Aromatherapy, plus teaching sessions on four hands massage, Lomi Lomi Hawaii massage and pregnancy massage by Frederique Deleage of Hong Kong's Frederique Academy.
The spa, which was designed by architects Michael Graves and Hong Kong-based Alan Chan Associates, is operated and owned by investment holding company House of Three Ltd, which was established in March 2000 to develop parts of the Bund.
The spa has 14 uniquely designed treatment rooms, which are reached by walking through a dramatic 35 metre high atrium. On the floor above, Barbers by Three offers male guests a selection of treatments, including shaves, haircuts, facials and Shanghainese pedicures while they enjoy malt whiskies, fine wines or freshly brewed coffee.
Spa director, Marie Harrison said: “ Our mission is impeccable care and personal service, using world-renowned products. We create an experience at Evian Spa that is a haven for the body and spirit.”
Handel Lee, co-chairman of House of Three said: “The concept of Three on the Bund is to offer our guests an opportunity to experience a stimulating and vibrant convergence of elegance, sophistication, exuberance and style. Shanghai is rapidly gaining status as the most exciting city in Asia and we’re pleased to be part of that phenomenon.”
Groupe Danone, which owns the Evian brand, is pleased with the interest in Evian Spa in Shanghai. Chairman and CEO of Groupe Danone, Frank Riboud commented: “The Evian Spa Shanghai aligns perfectly with our Evian brand values and will continue to make our water even more desirable in China. Evian Spa will definitely be the flagship location for the Evian brand."
