Marc Mastronardi, new president at Equinox, takes up his role today
Marc Mastronardi takes up his role as president of Equinox today (12 August).
Mastronardi has extensive expertise in retail and for more than 25 years has held a broad range of leadership positions at Macy's Inc – one of the world’s most prominent retailers – where he most recently served as the executive VP and chief stores officer, overseeing more than 500 stores and 75,000 employees and developing Macy’s Small Format strategy.
At Equinox, Mastronardi will be working with the executive leadership team to develop organisational strategies to drive the company's success, profitability and growth. He'll be responsible for leading operational excellence, employee and member experience, financial performance and innovation across all club offerings.
Harvey Spevak, executive chair and managing partner of Equinox Group, said "Equinox is an iconic global brand with a robust pipeline of new club openings and Marc's strong leadership and operating experience at scale will drive a culture of continued success as we accelerate towards our next phase of growth."
Equinox currently operates 107 clubs globally and has more than 25 new locations planned. It's exploring opportunities in new and existing markets, both in the US and internationally.
"I'm looking forward to using my experience to build on the momentum that Harvey and the Equinox team have created," said Mastronardi. "Through innovation and a commitment to delivering an unrivalled member experience, Equinox is well-positioned for the future as the authority in high-performance luxury living."
Equinox is often at the forefront of health and fitness trends, last year teaming up with health platform, Function Health to offer health testing as part of anUS$40,000 a year Optimise by Equinox membership. It was also been one of the first operators to launch specialist programmes for members on weight loss drugs.
As a company, Equinox is also expanding its hotel portfolio, with developments in the Middle East at Neom and Red Sea Global.
Equinox has changed its plans for London since the pandemic, with original aspirations to launch ten locations being scaled back. It currently has two clubs in the city in Kensington and Bishopsgate, with a third location in St James's for personal training – trading as E by Equinox. Other locations in Soho and Shoreditch have not materialised.
The company also has two SoulCycle locations in London in Soho and Notting Hill.
