English Heritage appoints education director
English Heritage has appointed a new education director, Sandra Stancliffe.
Stancliffe comes from Bristol Museums Galleries and Archives, where she held the post of learning manager.
She said she aims to support teachers in designing a locally relevant curriculum: “In order for the historic environment to be used effectively in teaching and learning, and for its full potential to be exploited, the curriculum must be more locally relevant and put national events in a local context.
"English Heritage can work in partnership with Children and Young People’s Services departments and school staff to do this.”
Stancliffe will drive a strategy that aims to make the local historic environment central to the experience of every school child in England, to ensure that every school child has the opportunity to visit an English Heritage property and to ensure that school children make regular use of those English Heritage properties that are on their doorstep.
