Edinburgh leisure centre reopens after £1m revamp
Edinburgh’s Drumbrae Leisure Centre has reopened following a £1m (US$1.2m, €1.1m) revamp programme, which has seen the installation of a new sauna and pool area.
Olympic silver medallist Robbie Renwick and 79-year-old fitness instructor Helen Flannigan were on hand to cut the ribbon for the refurbished facility.
Improvements include: more fitness classes; the creation of a “low intensity” mind and body fitness studio; a new cycle studio with Matrix bikes, offering Les Mills Sprint, RPM and group cycling; improved changing areas; and a social enterprise cafe.
Although the centre invested in new equipment last October, a further £30,000 was spent on two Matrix IC7 indoor cycles, a Technogym Skill Mill, a dedicated functional training space and a new weights rack.
Emily Neil, manager at Drumbrae Leisure Centre, said operator Edinburgh Leisure is “constantly reinvesting in its facilities to ensure our members have the best experience”.
“From gym, swim and fitness classes, children’s coaching and health and wellbeing programmes for the local community, no matter what age or stage you are, there is something for everyone,” she added.
